Ferdinand Hayden, 1829-1887
Qualifications
|
Ferdinand Hayden was an enthusiastic geologist and naturalist with a passion for collecting specimens from the American West. After the Railroad and Homestead Acts were passed and The Civil War was over, Westward Expansion took off at a rapid pace and Hayden wanted to make a name for himself in the Yellowstone region. [5] Politicians, traders, and railroaders also had interests in Yellowstone for purposes that had little to do with Hayden's naturalist goals, but he gladly made deals that would enable him to plan and undertake the expedition of his dreams.
